1997 Southeast Asian haze

In 1997, there was a big problem in Southeast Asia where there was a lot of haze in the air. This made it hard to breathe and see. The haze was caused by fires that people were intentionally setting to clear land for farming or other reasons. These fires got out of control and spread quickly, causing a lot of smoke to fill up the air.

The haze was really bad for people's health, especially for those who already had breathing problems like asthma. It was also bad for animals and plants in the area. The haze was so thick that it covered the sun and made it hard to see anything far away.

The main reason for the fires was because people didn't have other ways to clear land quickly and easily. They didn't understand the harm they were causing to the environment and the health of the people around them.

To help stop the haze, governments and organizations worked together to put out the fires and find new ways to clear land safely. They also put out messages to the public about the dangers of starting fires and the importance of protecting the environment.

Today, the situation is much better and people are finding better ways to clear land without causing harm to the environment and air. But the 1997 Southeast Asian haze is a good reminder of how important it is to take care of the planet and not do things that harm our health and the health of others.
