ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Account of profits

When we do something that we shouldn't do or take something that doesn't belong to us, it's called "wrongdoing". When someone does this, they might have to give back the thing they took or the money they made as a result of their wrongdoing. This is called "making up for it" or "making things right".

Let's pretend that you and your friend Billy are playing with some toys. You really like Billy's toy truck, so you decide to take it home with you without asking. This is not okay, because the truck belongs to Billy, and he might be upset if he doesn't have it anymore.

If you are caught taking the truck or if you feel guilty and decide to return it, you will probably have to make up for what you did. One way to do this is by giving Billy something in exchange for borrowing his truck. This could be money, or another toy of yours that Billy likes.

This process of making up for what you did by giving something back is called an "account of profits". It's like making a list of all the money or benefits you got as a result of your wrongdoing, and then giving that money or benefits back to the person who was affected.

In the end, it's important to remember that taking things without asking or doing things that are wrong can hurt other people, and that it's always better to ask or do the right thing in the first place.
