ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Attorney's fee

An attorney is a person who helps people with legal stuff, like going to court or writing up important documents. Just like when you ask someone to help you with something, they will usually ask for something in return. This is what an attorney's fee is - the money you have to pay for their help.

Think of it like buying a toy. You have to give the store money, and in return, they give you the toy you want. With an attorney, you have to pay them money for the work they do for you. This can be hourly, meaning you pay for every hour they work for you (like if you want to talk to them for one hour), or it can be a flat fee, which means you pay one amount for the whole job (like if you want them to help you with one thing, like writing up a contract).

So just like how you need money to buy a toy or a treat, you need money to pay an attorney for their help. They use this money to pay for things like their office, their staff, and even their own bills!
