ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Audio coding format

Okay kiddo, I'll explain it to you like you're five. Have you ever seen a music player? You know, those things that play music and songs for you? Well, those songs are stored on your music player as files. But those files are usually very large and take up a lot of space on your player. It means you won't be able to store as many songs as you want.

So, to make the files smaller and save more songs, we use something called an audio coding format. It's like a secret code that we use to compress the songs into smaller files without losing their quality.

Think of it like this: You have a big red ball, but it's too large to fit in your toy box. So, you use a shrink ray to make it smaller in size, but it still looks and performs the same way. That's what an audio coding format does!

Various types of audio coding formats are available, but the most common ones are MP3, AAC, WAV, and FLAC. When you add a song to your music player, it's usually in one of these formats.

So now you know that the audio coding format is a tool that makes it possible to store more songs on your music player by compressing them into smaller files without losing quality. Pretty neat, huh?
