Balanced ternary

Balanced ternary is a number system. This means it is a way of writing down numbers. In normal number systems (like the one we are used to) there are 10 numbers that you can use, these are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Balanced ternary works differently because it only lets you use 3 numbers. The 3 numbers are -1, 0, and 1. You can still count as high as you need to, but instead of using 10 different numbers all the time you only use 3.
