Bell System

The Bell System was the name for a group of companies in the United States that provided telephone services from 1877 to 1984. The Bell System was run by AT&T, which stands for "American Telephone and Telegraph Company." The Bell System connected people from all over the United States with telephones, and also offered long-distance calling. The network was made up of a lot of different pieces, including wires and cables, telephone poles, switchboards, and other equipment. By having all of this equipment connected together, it allowed people to call each other from very far away.
