ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bootkit

Okay kiddo, let's imagine you have a toy box, and you have a favorite toy that you always play with. One day, a sneaky invisible thief who you can't see, sneaks into your room and hides inside your toy box.

This sneaky thief is called a "bootkit" in the world of computers. It's a tiny program that hides inside your computer when it starts up (or "boots up"). Just like the thief hiding in your toy box, the bootkit hides in a secret place in your computer, and you can't see it.

Now, when you turn on your computer, the bootkit wakes up too. It's like your favorite toy suddenly coming to life and acting like a thief! The bootkit looks through all of the important files in your computer to find clues about passwords, bank account information or anything it can get its hands on.

Just like you have to be really careful about who you let play with your toys, you have to be really careful about what you download or click on when you use a computer. Because if you're not careful, you might let a sneaky bootkit into your computer, and it could do some really bad things. So always be careful and only download things you trust!
