Candlemas

Candlemas is a special day that happens during the winter season. It's a day when people celebrate lights and candles!

Do you know how candles work? When you light a candle, the heat melts a special waxy substance in the middle called the "wick". When the wick melts, it creates a tiny flame which can help us see in the dark. People have been using candles for a long long time, even before we had electricity.

Now, back to Candlemas. This day is also called the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus Christ, which is a big word for when Jesus was a baby, his mom and dad took him to the temple to show him off to everyone. A man named Simeon saw Jesus and prayed for him, saying he would be a special person who would do great things in the world.

On Candlemas, people use candles to remember this special day. Some people even have a special blessing of the candles in church, where they light lots of candles and say prayers.

So next time you light a candle, remember the special day of Candlemas and how candles can brighten up our world!
