ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Change of venue

Have you ever moved homes before? When you move to a new home, you usually want to be somewhere that is more convenient or better for you. Sometimes, when people have to go to court, they might want to move the court case to a different place too. This is called a change of venue.

A change of venue happens when the court decides to move the case from one place to another. The reason for this could be because it is too difficult or too expensive for people to go to the original court venue. Or, the court might think that moving the case to a different place will give the people involved in the case a better chance of getting a fair trial.

Just like when you move homes, there is usually a lot of planning and work involved in moving a court case to a new location. The court needs to make sure that everything is set up properly, including finding a new place to hold the trial, making sure everyone knows about the new location, and making sure that all the evidence and documents for the trial are moved safely.

So, a change of venue is like moving a court case to a new home, where everyone involved in the case can be more comfortable or have a better chance of getting a fair trial.
