ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chaotic scattering

Chaotic scattering is like a game of bumper cars. Bumper cars are motorized cars that you drive around on a big floor full of bumpers. In chaotic scattering, tiny particles "bump" off of one another in the same way. When two particles bump each other, their paths can change and they can move in a different direction. Eventually, the particles will settle into a pattern and move in a chaotic-looking way like they are dancing around one another.
