Competency dictionary

Okay kiddo, imagine you are in a very big and fancy restaurant. There are many workers there who do different jobs like cooking, serving food and cleaning tables. Each of these workers needs to have certain skills to do their job well.

The boss of the restaurant has made a list of all the skills that each worker needs to have to be good at their job. They call this list the "competency dictionary." It’s like a big recipe book for how to do a job well.

For example, if you want to be a cook, you need to know how to chop vegetables, cook meat, and use the right seasonings. If you want to be a server, you need to know how to carry a tray of food without dropping it, be friendly to customers, and remember orders.

The boss uses the competency dictionary to make sure that each worker knows what they need to do to be good at their job. It helps them to hire the right people and train them properly.

Just like the dictionary that we use to find the meaning of words, the competency dictionary is used to help people understand what they need to do to be successful in their job.
