Conservation and restoration of totem poles

Alright kiddo, so totem poles are very important carvings that are made by people from the Pacific Northwest Indigenous tribes of North America. They tell stories and represent different animals, families, and traditions of the tribes.

But over time, the totem poles can start to decay and wear out because of things like weather, insects, and pollution. That's where conservation and restoration come in!

Conservation is when people try to protect the totem poles from getting any more damage. They might put a cover over the pole to keep it from getting wet, or they might spray it with chemicals to keep bugs away.

Restoration is when people try to fix a totem pole that has already gotten damaged. They might use special tools and techniques to patch up the pole or replace any broken parts. It's kind of like putting a puzzle back together!

It's important to conserve and restore totem poles so that we can keep their stories and traditions alive for future generations to learn about and appreciate.
