ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Corsi–Rosenthal Box

Okay, so let's talk about hockey! In hockey, there are two types of players: the ones who try to score a goal, and the ones who try to stop the other team from scoring a goal. The people who try to stop the other team are called defensemen, and they do a lot of important stuff to keep the other team from getting a goal.

One thing that defensemen do is track how much the other team is shooting at the goal. That's where the Corsi-Rosenthal box comes in. It's a fancy way of keeping track of how many shots the other team is taking and where they're taking them from.

The box is divided into different areas based on how close to the goal they are. The areas closer to the goal are harder to shoot from, so shots taken from those areas are more dangerous. The defensemen count each shot and write down where it was taken from.

Then, at the end of the game, the coach can look at the box and see which areas the other team was shooting from the most. If they were shooting from the dangerous areas a lot, the coach might want to talk to the defensemen and figure out how they can do a better job of keeping the other team away from those areas.

So, in summary: the Corsi-Rosenthal box is a way for defensemen in hockey to keep track of where the other team is shooting from, so they can figure out how to do a better job of stopping them from scoring.
