ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Databending

Databending is like turning a regular picture into a funhouse mirror version of itself. You know when you look in a funhouse mirror and your face looks all twisted and silly? Well, databending makes pictures and other kinds of files look like that too, but on a computer.

Here is how it works, first you take a regular picture, like one you took on your phone. Then you open it up in a special program that allows you to mess with the code that makes up the picture. This basically means you can change the pixels, or tiny squares that make up the picture. You can add more pixels or take some away, change the color of the pixels, or move them around. This can make the picture look really weird and sometimes a little bit hard to recognize.

But why would you want to do this to a picture? Well, some people like to do it as a form of art, and others just think it’s really fun to mess around with pictures and see what happens. It’s kind of like a science experiment that you can do on your computer!

Overall, databending is a really cool way to turn regular pictures into something totally new and different. It’s like giving them a funhouse mirror makeover.
