A digital dark age is like a regular (or "analog") dark age, but instead of things like books, art, and culture being forgotten, it's digital information that's being lost. This can mean things like emails, text messages, videos, and websites disappearing, because technology isn't being updated or maintained anymore. Since computers, software, and operating systems are constantly being upgraded, new versions of the same information might not be able to be read by older technology, making it hard to access. This means that information that was stored on older computers may be forever lost if we don't find a way to make sure it's kept safe.
