ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale

Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale, or "Little Edie," was a lady who lived in a big house with her mother in a place called East Hampton. They were very rich and had lots of fancy things, but their house wasn't very clean or nice.

Little Edie was famous because she was related to some very important people, like a former First Lady named Jacqueline Kennedy. She also became famous because a movie was made about her and her mother called "Grey Gardens." The movie showed how they lived in their house, which was falling apart, and how they didn't have many friends or visitors.

Some people thought Little Edie was a little bit strange because she wore unusual clothes, like a scarf on her head instead of a hat. She also talked in a funny way and sang songs sometimes.

After the movie came out, some people tried to help Little Edie and her mother fix up their house and make their lives better. But Little Edie still stayed in the same place for a long time, until she passed away when she was an old lady.
