ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Epistolary poem

An epistolary poem is like a letter that someone writes to another person, but instead of being in prose (like a regular letter you might write to your grandma), it's in the form of a poem.

So, imagine that you want to write a letter to your best friend who lives far away. Instead of writing a regular letter with sentences and paragraphs, you decide to write a poem. In that poem, you might talk about all the things you miss about them, how much you wish they were closer to you, and how much you appreciate their friendship.

And just like in a regular letter, you might include details about what you've been up to or how your day has been going. But instead of just saying, "I went to the playground today and had fun," you might say something like, "Swung on the swings, jumped off the slide, and played hide-and-seek. I wished you were here to share the fun with me."

That's pretty much what an epistolary poem is – a letter in poem form.
