Fluorescence in the life sciences

Fluorescence is the process of making light when certain materials are exposed to light. In the life sciences, this property is used to learn more about how living things work. Scientists can use a special chemical that emits light when exposed to light and this helps them to find out information about cells and molecules inside of living organisms. Scientists use different colors of light to help them know what they are looking at and they can learn more about how things work inside of living things by looking at the colors of the light that come out.
