ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Frontier justice

Frontier Justice is a way of punishing people for bad behavior by making them follow certain rules or face consequences. It was a popular way to deal with crime in the 1700s and 1800s in the US, when there wasn't always a police force or court system. Instead, people in a community would decide what the punishment should be. If someone did something bad, they could be ordered to pay money or do something else as punishment. Frontier Justice wasn't always fair or organized, but it helped to keep people in line.
