Fulacht fiadh

So, a fulacht fiadh is a special kind of cooking pit that people in Ireland used a long, long time ago. They would dig a big hole in the ground and line it with stones. Then they would fill the hole with water and heat up some big rocks in a fire.

When the rocks were super, super hot, they would carry them with big sticks and put them into the water in the pit. The hot rocks would make the water boil and create steam, which would cook the food that the people had put in the pit.

People would use fulacht fiadhs to cook all sorts of things, like meat, fish, or even grains like oats. Sometimes they would even use it to make hot baths for themselves! It was all about using the power of heat and water to make things delicious and cozy.
