ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Give me the man and I will give you the case against him

Okay kiddo, let’s say there’s a person who might have done something wrong. We call him the man. Now, people who work as investigators and lawyers want to find out if he really did something wrong or not. That’s why they gather all the information they can find about the man, things like his name, where he lives, what he looks like, and so on. They also want to know what he did or didn’t do wrong, and what evidence they can find.

Once they have all this information, they put it together to make a case against the man. This means they have proof that he did something wrong and they will present it to a judge in a court. The judge will then decide if the man should be punished or not.

It’s kind of like when you and your friends play detectives and try to solve a mystery. You gather all the clues you can find, and then you put them together to figure out who did it. The only difference is that in a real case, it’s not a game and the consequences can be really serious.
