Gozan no Okuribi

Okay kiddo, have you heard of something called "Gozan no Okuribi"? It's a really special event that happens in Japan every year on August 16th.

In Japan, people believe in something called "Obon". It's a time when people remember their ancestors who have passed away, and they believe that during this time, their ancestors' spirits come to visit them.

Now, back to "Gozan no Okuribi". It's a very important part of Obon. On the night of August 16th, people light big fires in the mountains surrounding the city of Kyoto. They do this to guide the spirits of their ancestors back to the spirit world.

The fires are arranged in shapes like kanji (Japanese letters), each one meaning something different. For example, one might look like a boat, and it represents sending spirits who have come from far away back to their homes. Another might look like a torii gate, which is often seen in front of temples and shrines in Japan, and it represents the entrance into the spirit world.

So basically, "Gozan no Okuribi" is a way for people to say goodbye to their ancestors' spirits and send them back to the spirit world after they have spent time with their families during Obon. It's a very important tradition in Japan and many people look forward to it every year!
