ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Grassroots

Grassroots is a way of trying to achieve something by getting everyday people involved. It usually involves lots of people trying to get the same thing, like a law passed or stopping something from happening. Usually these people work together by writing letters and emails, raising money to spread the word, or getting together to do protests or marches. All these people are like a grassroots - their group is like a big group of roots from a tree that have grown together and can spread far and wide.
