ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

History of music

Music has been around for a very long time, and it's something that people all over the world enjoy. Long, long ago, people didn't have instruments like we do now. Instead, they used their voices to make music. They sang songs to each other to tell stories and share their feelings.

As people started to travel and trade with each other, they learned about new instruments and new ways to make music. Some of the earliest instruments were things like drums made out of animal skin and strings made out of animal gut. You might have seen someone playing a guitar or a violin before - those are examples of string instruments.

As people started to create more complex instruments, they were able to make even more beautiful music. Musicians started to experiment with different sounds and styles, and they invented new types of music that people had never heard before.

Throughout history, different parts of the world have developed unique music styles. For example, some people in Africa made music using drums and other percussion instruments. In Europe, people created classical music, which is very soothing and peaceful.

In the 20th century, people started to use new technologies to make music. They could record songs and listen to them later, or use computers to create new sounds. Some people even started to use electronic instruments that don't exist in the real world.

Today, there are so many different types of music to enjoy, from classical to pop to hip-hop. Each one has its own history and style, and it's fun to learn about all of them.
