ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hypertext

Imagine you are reading a book and you see a word highlighted in blue. If you touch that word, it will take you to another page in the book with more information about that word. That’s what hypertext is like but on the internet.

Hypertext is a way to link information on the web. Text can have links that connect it to other information or web pages. These links are usually a different color (like blue) and are underlined.

When you click on a hyperlink, it takes you to another page on the web. This is how you can go from one page to the next, and find all sorts of interesting information on the internet.

For example, if you’re reading an article about dogs and you see a link to “Corgis”, you can click on it to learn more about Corgis specifically.

Hypertext makes it easier to find and explore new information on the internet, and it’s a big reason why the web is so useful and easy to use.
