The India–United States Civil Nuclear Agreement is an agreement between the United States of America and the Republic of India that was signed in 2008. This agreement allowed India to buy nuclear technology and fuel from the USA, even though they had not signed an international treaty to not use nuclear weapons. This agreement was made so that India could access nuclear technology to use as an energy source, and not use it to create nuclear weapons. The USA and other countries agreed to provide India with the technology so that they could use it to produce clean and reliable electricity to their people.
