ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

InterNIC

Okay, so you know how the internet is like a big neighborhood where you can talk to people and find all sorts of things? Well, the Internic is like the person in charge of keeping track of all the addresses in that neighborhood.

Just like how each house in a neighborhood has its own address, every website and computer on the internet has its own special address too. These addresses are called domain names and they're what you type into the top of your browser to go to a website.

The Internic is the place where people go to register their domain name - kinda like when you and your family moved to your house, you had to tell the post office your new address so they would know where to send your mail.

When someone wants to register a domain name, they fill out some information about themselves and their website and then send it to the Internic. The Internic then keeps track of who owns what address and makes sure everyone is playing by the rules.

So basically, the Internic is like the helper who makes sure everyone knows where they live and helps them find their way around the internet neighborhood.
