ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kernel (operating system)

Kernel is like the brain of your computer. It's a piece of software that manages how you use your computer. It talks to your hardware (the stuff that makes your computer work, like your hard drive, processor, and memory) and tells it what to do. It also keeps track of what kind of programs you have installed, and helps them work together.
