Korean Demilitarized Zone

The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is an area that separates North Korea and South Korea. The DMZ is 250 miles (400 km) long and 2.5 miles (4 km) wide and is located in the middle of the Korean Peninsula. This area was created in 1953, when the Korean War ended. The purpose of the DMZ is to make sure that North and South Korea do not get into fights or wars with each other. People are not allowed to live in the DMZ and it is guarded by soldiers from North and South Korea. The DMZ is like a big line that North Korea and South Korea have agreed not to cross.
