ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Landing

Landing is like when you come back down to the ground after being up in the air. Sort of like when you jump off the couch or a step, but much more complicated.

When an airplane wants to land, it has to slow down first. It does this by moving its wings and a bunch of other parts so that it can move through the air more slowly. Then, the pilot finds a good spot to land and starts to steer down towards it.

As the plane gets closer to the ground, it uses special flaps on its wings and engines to slow down even more. The pilot also uses the wheels on the bottom of the airplane to touch down on the ground very gently.

If the landing goes smoothly, the airplane comes to a complete stop and the passengers can safely get off. Just like when you get to the bottom of the slide at the playground, but without any bumps!
