Martha Mitchell effect

The Martha Mitchell Effect is when a person claims to know something or to have seen something suspicious, but other people don't believe them. The name comes from the story of Martha Mitchell, who was the wife of a lawyer. Martha said that she had seen some strange things around her husband's office and she was sure they were up to something bad. However, nobody believed her, so they called it the Martha Mitchell Effect.
