ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nanostructures

Imagine you're building a really small house, so small that it could fit on the head of a pin. Now imagine that you're not using bricks or wood, but you're building it with really tiny Lego pieces. These tiny Lego pieces are called "nanostructures".

Nanostructures are really small things that we make on purpose to do specific tasks. They're so small that you need special tools to see them, like a really powerful microscope. In fact, they're so small that you can't even see them with your own eyes!

Scientists and engineers make all kinds of different nanostructures, and they use them for all kinds of different things. Some nanostructures are used to clean water, some are used to make really strong materials, and others are used to make energy from sunlight. They're like tiny little machines that we can use to make our world a better place.

So, just like you can build a small house with small Lego pieces, scientists and engineers can build really tiny machines with nanostructures. And just like you need special tools to build with small Legos, scientists and engineers need special tools to build with nanostructures.
