Newton fractals are a type of picture that are made when someone enters a mathematical equation into a special computer program. The program divides the picture up into lots of tiny parts, called pixels, and then it figures out what color each pixel should be. It does this by finding out which equation is producing the pattern it sees. If one equation is controlling the pattern, the picture will have lots of smooth, curved lines. If multiple equations are controlling the pattern – like for Newton fractals – the picture will be filled with lots of different shapes, like stars and circles.
