Olmec

Olmec were a group of people who lived a very long time ago in a place called Mesoamerica which is now parts of Mexico and Central America. They were one of the first big civilizations in that area and they are important because they influenced later civilizations such as the Maya and Aztec. The Olmec were known for their art, especially their big stone heads that they made out of huge rocks. People still marvel at these stone heads because they are so big and heavy, but the Olmec were able to move them and carve them into amazing works of art. They were also known for their religion and they believed in a lot of gods and practiced ceremonies to honor them. The Olmec were very skilled farmers and they grew crops such as corn, beans, and squash. They were also very good at making things out of clay, such as bowls and figurines. Today, people still study the Olmec to learn more about what life was like a long time ago and what we can learn from their accomplishments.
