Online ethnography

Online ethnography is a research technique used to study the cultures, behaviors and attitudes of groups online. It involves researchers observing online conversations, websites and other online activities such as chat rooms, forums, social media and virtual worlds. The researchers use this information to understand the culture, values and beliefs of a particular group. Online ethnographers look for patterns and trends in the data they gather to learn about how people interact online and what their shared values and beliefs might be.
