Optogenetics

Optogenetics is a way of studying how our brains work by using light and special proteins from living things. Scientists use a type of protein called opsins, which are found in some living organisms (like jellyfish and algae). These proteins react to light, and can be used to turn on or off specific parts of cells. By using optogenetics, scientists can study how our brains work and make treatments for diseases that affect brain function.
