ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Overdetermination

Overdetermination is when there are too many explanations or causes for something. For example, imagine you want to know why someone felt sad. At first, you might think maybe it was because it was raining outside. But then you realize it could also be because they had a fight with their friend, or because they failed a test. All of these things could be explanations for why someone felt sad, but together they are too many explanations for just one feeling - this is overdetermination.
