Partition of Bengal (1947)

Okay kiddo, once upon a time in 1947, there was a place called Bengal. It was a big piece of land with lots of people living on it. But there were two groups of people who didn't get along very well: the Hindus and the Muslims. They had different beliefs and customs.

The British were in charge of Bengal at that time and they thought that it would be a good idea to separate Bengal into two parts so that the Hindus and Muslims could live separately. They called this plan the "Partition of Bengal".

So, on August 14th, 1947, a new country called Pakistan was formed which was a place for Muslims to live in. The part of Bengal that went to Pakistan was called East Pakistan, which is now called Bangladesh. The other part of Bengal stayed in India and is still part of India today.

This decision was very controversial and caused a lot of tension between the Hindus and Muslims. Many people had to pack up their things and move to a new place which was difficult for them. It is remembered as a sad event in the history of India and Pakistan.
