ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Peter Carruthers (philosopher)

Peter Carruthers is a man who thinks about how our brains work and how we understand things. He is like a teacher who helps us understand why we feel a certain way or think a certain thing.

Imagine your brain is like a computer, it has lots of wires and circuits, and it works really fast to help you do things like talk, walk, and play. Peter Carruthers is interested in how those circuits work and how we can understand what they are doing.

He thinks that there are different parts of the brain that do different things. Some parts help us understand language, while others help us remember things or make decisions. He also thinks that our thoughts and feelings come from those parts of the brain working together.

Sometimes, we might not understand why we feel a certain way or think certain thoughts. But Peter Carruthers thinks that if we study the brain more, we can start to understand those things better. It's like solving a puzzle!
