Peyronie's disease

Peyronie's disease is a medical problem that can cause a man's penis to bend in a weird way. It happens because of a buildup of tough tissue (like scar tissue) inside the penis, which can make it harder and less flexible. This can make it painful to have sex, and even difficult to get an erection.

Imagine if you had a toy snake that was straight and easy to bend, but then you accidentally left it out in the sun and it became hard and wouldn't bend anymore. That's kind of what happens with a man's penis in Peyronie's disease.

Doctors think that the tough tissue buildup happens because of injury or tiny tears in the penis during sex, but they are not completely sure. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Peyronie's disease, but there are treatments that can help. Some men may find that their penis gradually improves over time, but others may need surgery to remove the tough tissue or to insert a special device to help with erections. If you or someone you know has Peyronie's disease, it's important to talk to a doctor who can offer the best advice and treatment options.
