ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Piercing

When someone wants to get a piercing, it means they want to put a special piece of jewelry, like a small hoop or stud, in a part of their body. This can be in their ear, nose, lip, belly button, tongue, eyebrow, or other places.

First, the piercer (who is a person who knows how to do this safely) will clean the area where the piercing is going to go. Then they will use a special tool called a needle to make a small hole in the skin. This hurts a little bit, but the piercer will try to make it as quick and gentle as possible.

Then they will put a small piece of jewelry into the hole they made. This might be a simple stud or hoop, or it could be something more fancy and decorative. The jewelry stays in the piercing until the person decides to take it out.

It's important to take care of a new piercing so it doesn't get infected or hurt. The piercer will give instructions on how to clean and care for the piercing. It might be necessary to avoid swimming, using certain products or activities, and being gentle with the piercing while it heals.

Piercings are a fun way to express individuality and style, as long as they are done safely and kept clean and healthy.
