ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Polygraph (duplicating device)

Okay kiddo, let's talk about polygraphs. Have you ever heard of a lie detector test? Well, a polygraph is the machine that people use to give that test.

When you take a lie detector test, the machine measures things like your heart rate, breathing, and sweat levels. These things can change when you're feeling nervous or excited, and they might change when you're lying too.

A polygraph helps the person giving the test keep track of all the different measurements and see if there are any big changes that might mean someone is lying. It's sort of like having a friend who can tell when you're feeling upset or happy, but instead of being a person, it's a machine.

Now, a duplicating device is a little different. It's a machine that makes copies of things, like a copy machine at the library. But a polygraph isn't really a duplicating device, because it doesn't make copies of anything. It just helps measure things.

So that's what polygraphs are all about! They're machines that help people give lie detector tests by measuring different things in your body, like your heartbeat. They don't make copies or duplicate anything, they just keep track of what's going on when you take a test.
