ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Process Improvement and Management (PI&M)

Okay, let me explain process improvement and management (pi&m) to you like you are five years old.

Pi&M is when we try to make things work better and faster. Do you remember when we cleaned up your toys room and it looked nicer and you could find your toys faster? That's kind of what we do with pi&m, but with grown-up stuff like how people work together to get things done.

Sometimes, grown-ups work on things and it takes a really long time or they waste time doing things that don't matter. Pi&M helps those grown-ups figure out how to make things work better, faster, and easier. It's kind of like when mommy helps you do a puzzle, and she shows you how to put the pieces together in the right order, and you finish it much faster than if you just did it by yourself.

The people who do pi&m are like detectives. They try to find out what is going wrong, ask lots of questions to understand it better, and then they try to come up with better ways to do things. For example, let's say daddy is always late picking you up from school. The person doing pi&m would figure out why that is happening and then come up with a new plan to make sure daddy is always on time.

Once we find better ways to do things, we try them out to see if they work. If they do, we teach other grown-ups how to do it too. It's like when you teach your friend how to jump rope or ride a bike. The ultimate goal of pi&m is to make things work better, faster, and more easily, so we can have more time for fun and happy things like playing with toys.
