ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Repository clone

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a toy box filled with your favorite toys. Now, let's say your friend wants to play with your toys too, but they live far away from you.

So, to make it possible for your friend to play with your toys, you give them a copy of your toy box. This copy is just like your toy box and has all the same toys in it.

Similarly, a repository clone is like making a copy of someone's toy box. But instead of toys, it's a copy of someone's computer files that they save on something called a "repository."

The person who owns the files can make a copy of their repository and share it with other people who want to see or work on those files. This copy is called a "clone" and it's just like having a copy of the original files on your own computer.

So, just like you can share your toy box with your friend, people can make a clone of a repository and have access to the same files that are in the original repository. This can be really helpful when people want to work on a project together, but they live far away from each other.
