Sea stack

Okay kiddo, have you ever gone to the beach and seen a really big rock sticking up out of the water all by itself? That big rock is called a sea stack!

See, a long time ago, the land by the beach was all connected, but over time the waves from the ocean banged into the rocks again and again. This made little holes in the rocks which got bigger and bigger as more waves hit them. Eventually, the waves broke through the rocks and made a hole big enough for the water to go through.

The water rushing through the hole then washed away all the rock around it, leaving just one big rock standing alone in the water. That big rock is now the sea stack you see today! It might look like it's just one big rock, but it used to be part of the land around it.

So next time you go to the beach, see if you can find any sea stacks! Try to imagine what the land looked like before they were there. It's pretty cool, right?
