ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Serial offender hunting patterns

Okay, kiddo. So, imagine you really like playing hide and seek. And let's say there is someone else who likes playing hide and seek too, but instead of just playing for fun, they like to hide and do bad things to people when they find them. That person is called a serial offender.

Now, when the police or detectives are trying to catch this person, they try to study their behavior and patterns to figure out where they might go or what they might do next. Just like how you might notice your friend always hides in a certain spot or always makes the same noise when they're hiding.

So, the police look at things like where the crimes happened, what time of day, how the offender acted, and who the victims were to create a sort of map or pattern of the offender's behavior.

If they can figure out the pattern, they might be able to predict where the offender will go next or when they might strike again. This can help them catch the offender before they have a chance to hurt anyone else.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
