Sericulture

Sericulture is the process of raising silkworms to turn their cocoon into silk thread. Silkworms are the larvae (baby) stage of a kind of special moths that are grown in farms called sericulture farms. Silkworms eat special leaves, called mulberry leaves, to use their energy to make a cocoon that they live in while they grow and become an adult moth. The cocoon is made up of a single, long strand of silk thread that can measure up to a mile long! People remove the cocoons from the silkworms and use a special process to unwind the strand of silk, weave it together and make beautiful cloth called silk.
