ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Service layer

A service layer is like an invisible waiter at a restaurant. The waiter helps the customer order their food, delivers the food to them when it's ready, and keeps track of any bills the customer might owe. At a restaurant, the waiter helps make sure the customer has a good experience. In the same way, a service layer helps computers talk to each other over a network. When one computer needs to get data or information from another, the service layer helps them find each other, understand what the other wants, and then get the data back and forth. It's like an invisible waiter who helps computers order and deliver the information they need.
