ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Surveillance abuse

Okay kiddo, let me explain to you what surveillance abuse means. You know how sometimes mommy and daddy have to keep an eye on you to make sure you're safe and not doing anything dangerous? Well, sometimes the government or other organizations do that too, but on a much bigger scale.

They use things like cameras, microphones, and computers to watch and listen to people's activities, communication and behavior. Now, this is not always bad. For example, it can help catch bad people who are planning to do bad things or prevent accidents from happening.

But sometimes, people who are in charge of watching others can abuse their power, which means they can use the information they gather for things that they are not supposed to do. This can include spying on people for personal gain, harassing or blackmailing them, or even tracking and censoring people who express opinions different from the ones in charge.

It's important to have rules in place to make sure that this kind of surveillance does not happen and that people's privacy is protected. So remember, just like mommy and daddy can't spy on you all the time, no one should be allowed to spy on others without a good reason and proper supervision.
