ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tallage

Hey kiddo, have you ever heard of the word "tallage"? It's a big word that means something kind of complicated, but I can explain it to you like you're 5 years old!

So imagine you're playing with toys and you have a lot of them. Let's say your friend comes over and wants to play with your toys too, but you don't want to share all of them. So, what can you do?

Well, you could tallage your friend. This means you would only let your friend play with certain toys and not all of them. In other words, you're kind of like the boss of the toys and you get to decide who gets to play with what.

The word "tallage" has been around for a long time and used to be a way for rulers or kings to collect taxes from their people. They would tallage their subjects, which means they would decide how much money each person had to pay based on how much they owned or earned.

So, the basic idea of tallage is that someone in a position of power gets to decide how much someone else should pay or get to use. It can be used in many different situations, not just with toys or taxes.

I hope that makes sense to you, kiddo! Let me know if you have any other questions.
